Healthy food served with clay + craft's modern ceramic bowl, what's not to love? Photographer Kaleigh Kosmas (@kaleighkosmas) nicely captures the combination in her recent Instagram post which features a beautiful beet soup (and includes the recipe). Kaleigh notes, "It's easy enough to throw together on a weeknight and striking enough to serve to guests."
Sick of the same thing morning after morning? Try this healthy, quick and easy recipe for tomorrow mornings breakfast.
Blend a 1/2 ripe banana, 1/4 cup cashews, 1/4 cup almonds, 1/4 cup walnuts, almond milk (add slowly to gain the perfect consistency) and cinnamon. This makes about a serving. It's delightful!
Ahh Mother's Day...how do you show your appreciation to someone who's done more for you than anyone? It's tough...we get it and can relate. She's got everything but we can't show up empty handed, right?
We have unique, handmade jewelry, flower vases, coffee mugs and tea cups. Simple, useful modern pieces that make a nice statement and can work in any home or office. Plus, our vases are perfect with some freshly cut flowers - hint hint =)!
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there. We cannot thank you enough!
Vogue magazine recently published an article citing, "Pottery is the new yoga! Here's to the mind-clearing benefits of clay." We agree!!
While we've had a fancy for creating modern ceramics, handmade pottery and playing with clay for 20+ years, it is nice to see that pottery has become more and more popular. Of late, the world of pottery has woven its way into the industries of art, fashion, design and now health/wellness. The article is very relatable, noting the appeal and idiosyncrasies of clay and touches on why we love it!
clay + craft is a small ceramic studio based in the seaside town of Cardiff / Encinitas just outside of San Diego, CA. clay + craft specializes in creating unique, modern ceramics from functional kitchen, tableware, dinnerware and drinking vessels to home decor pieces.
Introducing "Oatmeal" our newest glaze. After a ridiculous amount of testing, this glaze is finally performing well (phew 👍). While it's not the loudest color you've ever seen, we're slowly branching out 😉 👏. It's looking great on our handmade ceramic coffee mugs, cups, bowls and carafes. I've used this for vases from time to time and I'm excited to expand it to our modern functional collection. It's a clean, white matte finish with unpredictable brown speckles. A subtle new take to our classic design. It pairs well with the beautiful Spring mornings and evenings we've been enjoying in San Diego!
Say hello to our porcelain ceramic necklaces. Clay can be used for more than creating vases, dinnerware and drinking vessels. Our favorite necklace is the white crawl texture glaze. It's unique but follows to our less is more approach, creating a timeless piece of jewelry that's for a special night out or everyday use.

After a little break, I'm back on the wheel throwing a handmade modern vase! Here is a "Reese" vase. Named after my youngest niece it's the smallest vase within our Quinn Vase Series Collection. Each "Reese" vase begins with one pound of clay. The "Kenna" starts with 3 pounds and the "Camryn", our largest option is created with five pounds. The starting weight of the clay is the only commonality of each piece. From there I let the clay go where it wants to go and throw whatever it is I'm feeling. The result, a one of a kind piece as unique as the individuals their named after.
We recently sat down with our friends at Whalebone Media and shared a little bit about clay + craft. From our beginnings with clay and Vermont roots to Hooper (our Bernese Mountain Dog and clay + craft's lifeblood) to other artists that inspire us. We will join Whalebone in Venice, CA next week for their Pop Up Shop. Check out the full article.
Whalebone Media celebrates authentic stories, events and happenings in a style that pleases the soul. The folks at Whalebone are incredibly creative, successful folks and we appreciate their love for thoughtfully designed, modern ceramics.
Trimming. I was traditionally taught so it took me years to convince myself that it was ok to use the Giffin Grip, a tool that helps you center and trim pieces. Regardless of the subject matter, there comes a time where we're challenged with balancing authenticity and efficiency. I've learned you can achieve both. Tools like this have allowed me to continue the basic ceramics or pottery fundamentals yet have allowed me to push my skill set and creativity to the next level. Simple, timeless, modern ceramic wares is the foundation to clay + craft's mission.
